Everyman is the name of a line of English plays from the 15th century, allegorical plays, moral theatre. They were performed in cemeteries, and the theme is always salvation. The classic is called Everyman, it's from 1485, by an anonymous author. It was right in between the death of Chaucer and the birth of Shakespeare. The moral was always 'Work hard and get into heaven', 'Be a good Christian or go to hell'. Everyman is the main character and he gets a visit from Death. He thinks it's some sort of messenger, but Death says, 'I am Death' and Everyman's answer is the first great line in English drama: 'Oh, Death, thou comest when I had thee least in mind.' When I thought of you least. My new book is about death and about dying. Well, what do you think?

— Phillip Roth, 2005

A29 -- JOIN THE SOCIALIST PARTY CONTINGENT AT THE MARCH FOR PEACE.

NYC Area SPers,

We need your help on April 29th.

On April 29th, United for Peace and Justice, US Labor Against the War and others have organized a mass march and peace & justice festival in New York City. The Socialist Party is organizing a contingent for the march and will have a literature table at Peace & Justice festival, but need your support to make this successful.

Here’s how you can help:

1)Join us for the March!- gather at the SP USA National Office from 10 am to 10:45 am. We are located at 339 Lafayette St. (buzzer #7) in Manhattan (corner of Bleeker & Lafayette Sts- B,D,F, V or 6 trains). If you are running late, call me on my cell 201-803-7574 and (hopefully) find our contingent at the march. I STRONGLY recommend you meet us before hand, since the street s will be busy, but you can meet us on our way up as well.

2)Help distribute The Socialist and other SP literature (pick them up at the National office) or the SP table at the Peace & Justice Festival.

3)Help staff the Socialist Party table at the Peace & Justice festival. We will be in the “direct action” tent (more info. soon). Volunteer by sending me an e-mail at natsec@sp-usa.org. If you will not be marching and want to help set up the table in advance drop me a note. We could use your help.

4)Send a contribution to help us pay for April 29th organizing. You can send your contribution to: SP USA 339 Lafayette St. #303 NY, NY or donate on-line at: http://sp-usa.org/contribute.html.

Please try to join our contingent and consider a on contribution to help our work. If you are attending, please RSVP so we can get a head count. The Socialist Party’s A29 website is set up at http://sp-usa.org/campaigns/a29.html

Thanks in advance, and hope to see you on the 29th in NYC!
