This year we are excited to present many speakers who are new to Left Forum audiences, from around the world and right here in New York City, as well as many who are joining us again: Naomi Klein, Grace Lee Boggs, Tariq Ali, Staughton Lynd, Billionaires for Bush, Mahmood Mamdani, Adam Hochschild, Jeremy Scahill, David Harvey, Max Elbaum, Stanley Aronowitz, Frances Fox Piven, Bill Fletcher, Jr., Patricia McFadden, Patrick Bond, John Bellamy Foster, Michael Albert, Carlos Vilas, Dennis Brutus, Deepa Fernandes, and many more will participate.
The theme of Left Forum 2008 is Cracks in the Edifice. What is the nature of the emerging crises in global political economy? How can the Left confront its current challenges to build stronger anti-capitalist movements? If another world is possible, what will it look like? #11) in Manhattan . The meeting will start at 3 PM.
The meeting room is in the same building as the party’s national office, on the corner of Bleecker & Lafayette Sts. in Manhattan . All dues paying members in good standing have the right to attend and vote at the meeting. To be considered in good standing, your membership must be paid through September 2007. On March 19, 2008, we will set up a nonviolent blockade of the national Internal Revenue Service headquarters in Washington, DC, as part of the day of actions against the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Just as military recruiters supply the bodies for the war, the IRS supplies the funding. Just as some soldiers have the courage to resist the war, we — as tax payers — should have the courage to resist paying the taxes that send soldiers to war. We call on all war opponents to help dramatize our opposition and to disrupt business as usual by joining this nonviolent blockade.

5 years of war! On this sober anniversary, we will join hands to symbolize our unity in the call for peace and for funding our communities, not war! Join us to form a human chain on 14th St. from Ave. A to 11th Ave. in Manhattan, on Saturday, March 22. Bring your friends, your banners, your signs. We will stand, hands joined, from noon to 1:00. Then both ends of the line (at 11th Ave and Ave A) will march in towards Union Square with each block filling in as the march goes by.
We will converge near Union Square around 2:00 for a somber commemoration of the casualties of this immoral war. Bring photographs and flowers. Later this week, there will be photographs that you can download from our website: US service people, Iraqis, wounded vets, victims of Katrina, etc. The bells will toll, we will stand for 5 minutes in silence and then Taps will be played.
