What publishers are looking for these days isn't radical feminism. It's corporate feminism - a brand of feminism designed to sell books and magazines, three-piece suits, airline tickets, Scotch, cigarettes and, most important, corporate America's message, which runs: 'Yes, women were discriminated against in the past, but that unfortunate mistake has been remedied; now every woman can attain wealth, prestige and power by dint of individual rather than collective effort.

- SP Discussion Club - Meeting 3 - Class and Consciousness-
Comrades, The next meeting of the SP Discussion Club will be held this Tuesday night 13 November at 7:00p in the SP office. All these details are also posted on the Local's website: http://spnyc. org The readings for this week will include some classic writings on class and the role of consciousness. This will be our last scheduled week of readings in method. Subsequent meetings will focus on particular themes and topics. So, once again please brings ideas, criticisms and questions. The literary and artistic communities come out en masse to honor the life and work of the revered short-story writer, poet and model of 'combative pacifism,' Grace Paley. After studying with W.H. Auden at The New School in the 1940s, Paley went on to become a writer renowned for her articulation of the New York experience and a beloved friend and mentor to generations of writers. /Co-sponsored by the New School Writing Program and the Unterberg Poetry Center./

The Socialist Party USA (NYC local) invites you to a viewing and discussion of a recently produced documentary entitled “Facing Fascism: New Yorkers Remember the Spanish Civil War.” “Facing Fascism” uses first-person interviews to document the stories of five New Yorkers who joined the international solidarity movement to defend the democratically elected leftwing government of Spain against a fascist rebellion in 1936. The five participants became members of a group of American leftists who called themselves the Abraham Lincoln Brigade. - LEFT FORUM 2008- Save the date! LEFT FORUM 2008 will take place March 14-16 at The Cooper Union, New York City. This year we are excited to present many speakers who are new to Left Forum audiences, from around the world and right here in New York City, as well as many who are joining us again: Naomi Klein, Grace Lee Boggs, Tariq Ali, Staughton Lynd, Billionaires for Bush, Mahmood Mamdani, Adam Hochschild, Jeremy Scahill, David Harvey, Max Elbaum, Stanley Aronowitz, Frances Fox Piven, Bill Fletcher, Jr., Patricia McFadden, Patrick Bond, John Bellamy Foster, Michael Albert, Carlos Vilas, Dennis Brutus, Deepa Fernandes, and many more will participate. The theme of Left Forum 2008 is Cracks in the Edifice. What is the nature of the emerging crises in global political economy? How can the Left confront its current challenges to build stronger anti-capitalist movements? If another world is possible, what will it look like?
