  The Socialist Party USA (NYC local) invites you to a viewing and discussion of a recently produced documentary entitled “Facing Fascism: New Yorkers Remember the Spanish Civil War.” “Facing Fascism” uses first-person interviews to document the stories of five New Yorkers who joined the international solidarity movement to defend the democratically elected leftwing government of Spain against a fascist rebellion in 1936. The five participants became members of a group of American leftists who called themselves the Abraham Lincoln Brigade.

Muste Institute, 339 Lafayette Street, New York, NY "Howard Zinn: You Can't Be Nuetral on a Moving Train" In Howard Zinn: You Can't Be Neutral on a Moving Train, filmmakers Deb Ellis and Denis Mueller buck the current trend of showy documentaries, adopting instead a classic, unassuming style perfectly suited to their subject. Zinn may be one of the few famous Americans alive who's better known for his work than his face. Zinn, who bears a passing resemblance to Gregory Peck, appears unfazed by his increasing popularity. Matt Damon narrates, mostly excerpts from Zinn's autobiography, with which the film shares its title. In a depiction otherwise straightforward and plain, Damon adds a patina of glamour. Muste Institute, 339 Lafayette Street, New York, NY "Life and Debt" Life and Debt is a 2001 American documentary film directed by Stephanie Black. It examines the economic and social situation in Jamaica, and specifically the impact thereon of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank's globalization policies. • Liberation Film Series- The Revolution Will Not Be Televised- August 10th at The A.J. Muste Institute, 339 Lafayette Street, New York, NY "The Revolution Will Not be Televised" The Revolution Will Not Be Televised (a.k.a. Chavez: Inside the Coup) is a 2002 documentary about the April 2002 Venezuelan coup attempt which briefly deposed Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez. A television crew from Ireland's Radio Telifís Éireann happened to be recording a documentary about Chávez during the events of April 11, 2002. Shifting focus, they followed the events as they occurred. During their filming, the crew recorded images of the events that they say contradict explanations given by Chávez's opposition, the private media, the US State Department, and then White House Press Secretary Ari Fleischer. The documentary says that the coup was the result of a conspiracy between various old guard and anti-Chávez factions within Venezuela and the United States.
