Although written many years ago, Lady Chatterley's Lover has just been reissued by the Grove Press, and this pictorial account of the day-to-day life of an English gamekeeper is full of considerable interest to outdoor minded readers, as it contains many passages on pheasant-raising, the apprehending of poachers, ways to control vermin, and other chores and duties of the professional gamekeeper. Unfortunately, one is obliged to wade through many pages of extraneous material in order to discover and savour those sidelights on the management of a midland shooting estate, and in this reviewer's opinion the book cannot take the place of J.R. Miller's Practical Gamekeeping.

The National Action Committee passed the following resolution unanimously.
Motion: To endorse the April 10, 2006 mobilizations for immigrant rights and to encourage affiliates to take part in local April 10th actions.

Statement from Socialist Party USA Vice-Chair Mary LoritzStanley "Tookie" Williams' life was taken by the state last night at 12:35pm by way of lethal injection, after spending twenty-four years in prison. Tookie was one of the founding members of the street gang the Crips, and in 1981 was convicted on four counts of murder, for which he maintained his innocence.
He has since denounced gang life and violence and apologized for his role in establishing the Crips. Tookie went on to coauthor several children's books discouraging violence, and an autobiography that documents the realities of violence and life in prison.

Two weeks from yesterday (i.e., Friday, October 19) the SP 2007 National Convention will be convening. As you will see from the agenda draft below, it will be a full 3 days of discussion and decision-making. I hope that many of you will be there, or will be in close contact with your delegates and alternates between now and then, so that your opinions will be represented.
SP women: I hope you will be able to attend a meeting of the Women's Commission over breakfast on Sunday morning. I also look forward to informal opportunities to talk with others about the status of and possibilities for women SP members, in the party and in our communities. One of the best ways women can influence the direction of the party is to be a National Co-Chair or Co-Vice-Chair, or a member of the National Committee. Please consider being a candidate for one of these leadership positions.
