I lately lost a preposition; It hid, I thought, beneath my chair And angrily I cried, Perdition! Up from out of under there.

On July 9, 2004, the International Court of Justice at the Hague ruled that Israeli settlements and the West Bank Wall illegally annex Palestinian land, violate Palestinian human rights and must be dismantled. In violation of the law, billionaire diamond merchant LEV LEVIEV and his sometime partner, SHAYA BOYMELGREEN, have used the Wall to grab more land to construct illegal Jewish-only housing worth hundreds of millions of dollars. At the same time, they are attempting to drive out families in New York so they can create more luxury condos.

Join protesters in the villages Leviev is stealing land from in the West Bank and in New York on the fourth anniversary of the court’s opinion.
Bring Leviev to justice!

8/2 SAT: Stop War on Iran march

From: Stop War on Iran
Subject: Aug 2 - 50+ cities to say - NOT Another War
=20
AUGUST 2:
An Emergency Call to Action

Join us on August 2 in more than 50 local actions all across the country.

Get in touch with friends, co workers, community and religious groups and =
students.

Together we can say -

Not ANOTHER war!
Troops Out of Iraq
No War on Iran
We need health care and education NOT Endless war!

MASS MARCH IN NYC
….and 50+ Other Cities

SATURDAY, AUGUST 2

Assemble 12 p.m. at Times Square 43rd St. & Broadway

On June 26, the Stop War on Iran Campaign issued a call for emergency actio=
ns on August 2 to stop the Bush Administration=92s drive towards an attack =
against Iran.

In the few days since we=92ve issued the call, responses have been pouring =
in. Already, we have heard back from activists and organizers who are plan=
ning protests, rallies, and pickets in more than 50 cities, including a maj=
or demonstration in New York City in Times Square and a demonstration in fr=
ont of the White House in Washington. Actions will also be held in Los Ang=
eles, several cities in Texas, locations throughout New England, small town=
s in Utah, and more. We are working on compiling a list of the growing num=
ber of local actions now, which we will have online soon.

It is urgent that we act now, and that we make every possible effort to sto=
p a war against Iran. We know that once Wall Street and the Pentagon, init=
iate a war and occupation, they are determined to continue, even in the fac=
e of determined resistance and opposition. Iraq and Afghanistan have been =
ripped to shreds by the invasion and occupation. Millions are without pota=
ble water, electricity, functioning schools, basic health care or security.=
Millions more have become refugees.

The cost of endless war means growing hunger and poverty here in the U.S. I=
t also means deteriorating schools and infrastructure and millions of peopl=
e without health care.

The U.S. occupation of Iraq and Afghanistan is hated by the people there. T=
hese wars have no support at home and are ruining the domestic economy. Ins=
tead of pulling out, the Bush administration is preparing for still another=
war=97this time against Iran. This must be stopped!

We must take action now. Please consider how you can help - what you do in=
the next few weeks can make a difference:

hosted by Vittoria Repetto, the hardest working guinea butch dyke poet on the
Lower East Side. Deliver (up to) 8 minutes of your poetry, prose, songs and

7/10 THU: FREEZE action in Grand Central

16 hours 56 min ago

Please ask friends to try nyprotest
two-message-per-week calendar, also

……

_FREEZE_
*in Grand Central Station:*
*”No Attack on Iran!”*
Thursday, July 10th
Meet up at 5:00 PM on Lexington & 42nd Street.
Action to start at precisely 5:30 PM.

[1]Those who are participating will meet 30 minutes prior to the time we will begin the “freeze”. We cannot carry signs in Grand Central Station, but we will have available a statement to affix to your t-shirt that will carry a unified message and presentation. The way it works is that we enter the terminal and spread out, acting normally and speaking to each other. We don’t cluster but spread out, close enough that we make an impact, and far enough apart that we cover a large area. The distance we separate ourselves
will depend upon the amount of people that show up, we don’t want to lose the effect of the “silent protest.”

Prior to entering the Terminal, we will “synchronize our watches” so that at exactly 5:30 PM, all at an exact time everyone who is participating will automatically stop exactly where they are and freeze what they were doing, whether it was holding a bottle of water, a paper, flyer, jacket, holding hands, and hold that pose for 5 MINUTES. We can be very creative! Your t-shirts will be carrying the message of “No Attack on Iran !” and passersby will see it and witness you standing frozen. You may have your picture taken, people may want to speak to you, but you cannot respond. The point is to act as if you are a mannequin. This is not an illegal action, and will only be 5 minutes, but we will make an impact.

If you wish to participate in this action you can sign up now or please
email and let us know you will be there! Also, if you are interested in helping us organize the event, indicate that or send the information along in your email. Hope you can make it! This will be a determined effort, but fun.

If you have friends that might be interested, please forward this email.

[For those unfamiliar with this type of protest, watch the video at
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jwMj3PJDxuo to show you exactly how it is done.]
It’s up to us. Impunity and the Struggle for Justice in India
Lecture & Documentary Screening

Indian Muslim Council - USA, an advocacy group dedicated to protecting the rights of minorities and promoting pluralism, presents a lecture tour of Teesta Setalvad a noted Mumbai based civil rights activist and RB Sreekumar a retired IPS officer who served courageously during the 2002 Gujarat carnage.

Teesta Setalvad is a Mumbai based civil rights activist, journalist and educationist. Appalled by the communal violence during the Bombay Riots, she, along with activist husband Javed Anand, quit full-time journalism in 1993 to start a monthly magazine Communalism Combat. Teesta Setalvad won the Nuremberg International Human Rights Award 2003 and in 2007 she was given the Padma Shri Award by the Government of India for her role in “Public Affairs in Maharashatra”. Teesta Setalvad, has been a crusader for Gujarat riot cases and convinced the Supreme Court to move the cases out of Gujarat. Her tireless efforts finally brought justice to the victims in the famous “Best Bakery Case” despite intimidations and hostile witnesses.

R.B.Sreekumar is a Retired Senior Police Officer of the Indian Police Service (IPS). Sreekumar performed his duties courageously by thwarting several attempts by his political bosses in Gujarat to cover-up and subvert justice in the aftermath of Gujarat carnage in 2002. He served the Gujarat State for 35 years in various positions before retiring in 2007 as Additional Director General of Police. He was awarded the Medal for Meritorious Service in 1990 and a Medal for Distinguished Service in 1998 by the Govt of India. He was awarded The Gangadharan Memorial Award for Best Police Man, in April 2008, for his “courageous and
competent performance of duties during 2002 Gujarat riots.

WASTELANDS: THE ENVIRONMENTAL CASUALTIES OF WAR

THURSDAY JULY 24: AFTERMATH: THE REMNANTS OF WAR
(2001, 74 min.) War has a dirty secret - it never really ends. Aftermath: T=
he Remnants of War reveals the twentieth century as the most violent in hum=
an history, with a death toll of more than one hundred million. Filmed on l=
ocation in Russia, France, Bosnia, and Vietnam, the film uses archival imag=
es and personal accounts of individuals involved in the cleanup of war: fro=
m “de-miners” who risk their lives daily, to a treasure hunter turned arche=
ologist in Stalingrad, to doctors struggling with the contamination from di=
oxin used during the Vietnam War. Its poignant stories present a sobering m=

WASTELANDS: THE ENVIRONMENTAL CASUALTIES OF WAR

THURSDAY JULY 10: ARID LANDS.
(2007, 98 min.) Arid Lands is a documentary feature about the land and peop=
le of the Columbia River Basin in southeastern Washington state. Sixty year=
s ago, the Hanford nuclear site produced plutonium for the atomic bomb drop=
ped on Nagasaki, and today the area is the focus of the largest environment=
al cleanup in history. It is a landscape of incredible contradictions. Coyo=
tes roam among decommissioned nuclear reactors, salmon spawn in the middle =
of golf courses, wine grapes grow in the sagebrush, and federal cleanup dol=
lars spur rapid urban expansion. Arid Lands takes us into a world of sports=
fishermen, tattoo artists, housing developers, ecologists, and radiation s=
cientists living and working in the area. It tells the story of how people =
changed the landscape over time, and how the landscape affected their lives.

THURSDAY JULY 17: RADIOACTIVE AMERICA.
(2000, 29 min.) With a special guest speaker. Historically, nuclear weapons=
production has generated massive amounts of radioactive waste. Poor dispos=
al and containment practices have allowed radioactive waste to contaminate =
the soil and ground water surrounding nuclear laboratories. A case in point=
: the nuclear facility in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. What effect has America’s n=
uclear bomb-making legacy had on our communities?

THURSDAY JULY 24: AFTERMATH: THE REMNANTS OF WAR
(2001, 74 min.) War has a dirty secret - it never really ends. Aftermath: T=
he Remnants of War reveals the twentieth century as the most violent in hum=
an history, with a death toll of more than one hundred million. Filmed on l=

le of the Columbia River Basin in southeastern Washington state. Sixty year=
s ago, the Hanford nuclear site produced plutonium for the atomic bomb drop=
ped on Nagasaki, and today the area is the focus of the largest environment=
al cleanup in history.

Filmed on l=
ocation in Russia, France, Bosnia, and Vietnam, the film uses archival imag=
es and personal accounts of individuals involved in the cleanup of war: fro=
m “de-miners” who risk their lives daily, to a treasure hunter turned arche=
ologist in Stalingrad, to doctors struggling with the contamination from di=
oxin used during the Vietnam War. Its poignant stories present a sobering m=
essage of the terrible aftermath of war.

Co-sponsored by Peace Action New York State, Sierra Club NYC, and NY League=
of Conservation Voters, the series will run every Thursday night at 6:30 p=
m through August 7. Click for two-up flyer with full schedule.=20

VIGIL AND DELEGATION TO THE NEW YORK CANADIAN CONSULATE IN SUPPORT OF WAR R=
ESISTERS.
Recently on June 3rd the Canadian Parliament passed an historic motion to o=
fficially welcome war resisters! It now appears, however, that the Conserva=
tive government may disregard the motion. Iraq combat veteran turned courag=
eous war resister, 25-year-old Sgt. Corey Glass of the Indiana National Gua=
rd is still scheduled to be deported July 10th. Co-sponsored by Courage to =
